Dear Dubai, You are well aware that we have infiltrated your security, censorship, and monetary agencies along with other agencies that should not be mentioned.Love, Al Quaeda |
| -Sepp March 2, 2006 08:59 AM PST My question is what will change? Every worker will still have to have background checks, port security will still be run by us customs and the port authority. All the workers will still be the same old union dock workers that have been there for years. The propaganda in all of this story is how people are being lead to think that all the above mentioned workers will be replaced by unknown Arabs with dubious intent. I am interested to know why there is no American company bidding on port operations. | ||
| Mark Adams, The Lib March 3, 2006 12:20 AM PST I don't think any US companies were offered the gig since it involves more than just our ports but a buy out of the whole London based operation. There are some Brits pretty pissed too. But now is not the time to get realistic. . . | ||
| -Sepp March 3, 2006 01:57 AM PST My guess would be that running the port is so over-regulated that no US company has the patience to deal with it. We hear United "ARAB" emirates and the first thought is terrorism and it becomes an easy arguement since terrorism and ARAB seem to go hand in hand as a stereotype. What if it were a black owned company? Would people be up in arms saying the ports would all become crime ridden ghettos? Would it be right? No. I think the Arab company sees a shot at making some good money and is going for it. I'm sure they are aware of their stereotype and are prepared for the extra scrutiny. At least they aren't filing a discrimination lawsuit...yet! | ||
