When is enough enough?

Kevin Drum asks, "When is enough enough?"
(W)ith Bush, every time you get past the high school version of his policies, he's just adrift. He's generally shrewd enough to change the subject when he realizes he's at sea, but when he does answer it's scary.

Like I said, I don't think we need Albert Einstein in the Oval Office. But do Republicans really feel comfortable with a guy who so plainly doesn't understand his own policies? Don't they think this might have something to do with the fact that so much of what he's done has turned out badly even from a conservative perspective?
It's really not that he's all that stupid or all that evil, he's just not bright enough to handle the job, even after four years of on-the-job training. Being surrounded by smart advisors with their own agenda just makes him always seem like he has an ulterior motive which doesn't help. He does have an underlying scheme for his plans, unfortunately they are not of his making nor does he fully appreciate all of their implications.

Sad really. We SO deserve better. What happens on, say Hallowween, two days before the election, and we have twin bus bombing in Chicago like they just had in Tel Aviv, at the same time a school in Pittsburgh is taken over by gunmen demanding we get out of Iraq like what just happened in Chechnia?

My bet is that Bush doesn't miss his photo-op with the Governor of Ohio and has Scott McManiquin deliver the typical "bring 'em to justice," statement, then use the tragedy to say we still need him so this kind of thing doesn't happen again -- again? Callous bastards. They've taken advantage of this guy and he doesn't even know, or care.

If ever there was a need for a Constitutional Amendment limiting the presidency .to one six-year term, this guy is the poster child. Get back to work dammit! Recess is over. You just know something nasty is headed our way -- and it ain't a hurricane.

God Hates Fags

CNN must too. They refused to air this ad by the log cabin republicans, deeming it "too controversial.".

The server was tied up when I tried. Lemme know what you think. I understand Jerry Falwell strips naked and spanks an alter boy, or something like that. ;-)

VIA: BoiFromTroy:CNN silences gay Republican voices on a tip from Wizbang
The ad closes with images of the Reverend Fred Phelps holding a sign that reads "God Hates Fags," at the funeral of hate crime victim Matthew Shepard. logcabin.org
I thought these guys had endorsed Bush in spite of the administration's homophobic rhetoric. Hey Guys, Send it out locally to TV stations in Columbus, Daton, and Cincinatti. Give it a shot anyway.

Too controversial? That's bullshit and hypocritical, CNN just can't take the heat the pussies.

Bush Tried, Hampsters Died!

"Giggles", which is my new nickname for Jenna Bush, could not seem to get a grip tonight. Too much sugar I guess. I'm raising three girls so by the time 10:00pm rolls around, I've had enough of giggly. The twins were as endearing as advertised, but it's obvious Jenna must have spat out her ritalyn when mom wasn't looking. We did learn a very important and little known fact from thier speech:
George Bush is a Hampster Killer!

I suspect there to be a full congressional inquiry into the tragic death of the Bush family's beloved rodent, and hopefully we will get to the bottom of the President's personal involvement in this tragically sorted affair.

The Pee is in the Pool

This story now has a mind of it's own with Juan Cole leading the hit parade when you do a Google News search for "Ghorbanifar."

Google Search: Results 1 - 10 of about 205 for Ghorbanifar

"Larry Franklin," however nets you 671 entries.

Best headline, from the Maariv International,
A molehill without a mole

Maybe, but my spidey sense is tingling.

Israeli Spys

I've restricted my comments of the growing Israeli Spy Scandal to Ara's blog, but I note now that in addition to Josh and Laura who took the lead in the blogosphere on this story, Juan is now doing journyman analysis (as usual) and uggabugga is keeping an updated flow-chart to keep track of the nefarious connections.

As Hal said, "Sometimes it doesn't pay to take the tin-foil hat off. I'm still gathering info, but I suspect this is Watergate meets Iran-Contra with all the same players or their protègès and if Bush gets reelected this will be the straw the breaks the impeachment dam. CYA will be the theme of a second Bush term as all the rats will flee this sinking ship.

UPDATE:
Check out the comments. The first one (at the bottom, I know, I know, but this is a free blog) by Adam has some links trying to give me some perspective. (Thanks Adam, BTW) The best is from Haaret which quotes a statement from the LA Times:
The Los Angeles Times reported yesterday that Franklin may have conveyed the classified information innocently, not realizing he was breaking the law. "The man is not a spy, he's an idiot," an official familiar with the investigations told the paper.
Other than the fact that there are foil-lined baseball caps available at the GOP gift shop in Tel Aviv, there really isn't much hard info out there, just lots of speculatioin on both sides.

One absolute fact:
  • The administraiton has not denied that the FBI has been at least a year investigating this.

Two speculative thoughts:
  • There's something there or they would have dropped it by now.
  • They don't have much or subpoenas, arrests or indictments would have issued -- nothing really dangerous anyway or I hope they would have put and end to it unless they were running a sting.

Preliminary spin:
  • The leak was conveniently timed but it had to be someone in the know. The Democrats were in no posiition to put this out there. Look to folks with axes to grind like State Department wonks looking to jockey for position during the next administration Even if Shrub wins this thing, Powell will be gone, Rice will have moved to head an agency, Rummy might be out on his ass, Armitage and Wolfowitz and Feith want to raise their pay grades, and Andrew Card is eager to write his own best seller. Lots of scrambling, backstabbing and shredding to do between now and January.

National Security Comparison

National Security Strategies Comparison
Kerry-Edwards vs. Bush-Cheney

John Kerry for President - A National Security Comparison

National Security Strategies
George Bush John Kerry
Restoring America’s Alliances Shattered alliances, alienated close allies, and made us less safe. America and American troops paying most costs of Iraq war. Launch a New Era of Alliances for a post 9-11 world, to restore America's place in the world and make us safer.
Preventing the Spread of Dangerous Weapons Stood by as North Korea and Iran further developed nuclear programs. Bush administration will take up to 13 years to finish the job of securing former Soviet weapons and materials at current pace. Comprehensive plan to secure nuclear weapons and nuclear materials worldwide. Will secure all nuclear weapons and materials in the former Soviet Union and complete Global Cleanout of bomb material within four years.
Strengthening America’s Military to Meet New Threats Failed to adequately plan for wars of the 21st century. Sent troops into Iraq without proper equipment and supplies. Strengthen our military, including doubling our Special Forces capability to fight the war on terror; improve our technology; and task our National Guard with Homeland Security. Add 40,000 new soldiers to the active-duty Army -- not to increase the number of soldiers in Iraq -- but to prevent and prepare for other possible conflicts.
Achieving Energy Independence From Mideast Oil Ignored our increasing and dangerous reliance on Mideast oil. Refuses to get serious with Saudi Arabia about its role in funding terrorism. Detailed plan to end America's dangerous dependence on Mideast oil to secure our full independence and freedom. Will stop using kid-gloves with countries that launder money for terrorism.

Kerry's Iraq Plan vs GOP Talking Points

Those pesky and persuasive GOP talking points seem to come down like manna from heaven and nourish the talking head crowd. At first you try a taste, find it unleasant or bitter, but decide it was harmless, swallow it and go on. Next thing you know, that it's everywhere. It's as if the powers that be saw that since you didn't spit it out, you might eat a whole loaf of the vile stuff, and finding out you need a shovel to get rid of all of it.

Much llike the first time you come across a little barb like their accusation that Kerry has not released his records or the latest one that Kerry hasn't come up with a plan for Iraq. Just when you figure you've cleaned up one distraction and lie, another one has taken root. You might first see it as a comment on a blog, or an aside in a press conference or speech -- a throw away line by a conservo-bimbo in the upper right-hand box on a split-screen shouting match that serves as political discourse on television nowadays. Next thing you know, it's taken as accepted dogma and ends up in on eof Cheny's speeches.

It's almost too late before you know that the pee is in the pool, you should have debunked it from the start instead of ignoring the bait, and now you risk looking like you've make something up out of whole cloth in response to their insinuations instead of merely showing what has been the candidate's consistent position right along.

In the interest of getting ahead of the lastest bitter pill from Rove & Company, here is a reference to John Kerry's proposal to Win the Peace in Iraq. Part of his complete National Security Plan, which is included in his Comprehensive War on Terrorism

Here is a point by point National Security Comparison of the two candidates.

In fact here's an outline with interactive hyperlinks to detailed proposals and speeches on Kerry's pecific policy plans on everything you can imagine.
