Michael Savage, intolerant xenophobe that he is, gave me several chuckles tonight as I was driving along the length of Lake Eire. We agreed on a few thing as well. Both of us think the 0/11 commission's report is a whitewash. Of course we have different reasons, I mean, the guy is to the right of Attila the Hun,
I think that the commission sugar coated the incompentance of the myopic Bush administration while Savage thinks that they were covering up for the Clintonistas.
He also thinks that it is shameful how Bush et al. have used the terror alerts to advance their political purposes. Yes, this was the first self-styled conservative who I have heard agree with me that Tom Ridge is full of elephant shit. No caveat here, no but, he can't stand Bush because (get this) he's not conservative enough.
Savage wants the borders closed down and all muslims strip-searched and their harddrives cataloged. I'm not sure there is a classification "right" enough for this guy because he doesn't come full circle to the left. He's just out there. Actually too funny to fear.
At one point, he insisted that radical Isalm must be destroyed because it is the only religion that wants to destroy everyone else. [OK, fine, whatever, it's a little more complicated but I get it, go on.] Isalm, all of it because it breeds the radical part, must be eradicated from the planet. He argues that America is the bastion of freedom which can tolerate every religion (but this dangerous one which wants to destroy us). He lost me when he blamed liberal tolerance for allowing muslims to practice their religion, which he knows is nothing but hate. Essentially he wants to smoke the bad guys out of their caves with nukes.
Here's where I knew I'd been listening too long. He recites a list of the various religions in America and says there is a place for them all (except Islam). "Catholic, protestant, Buddist Hindu, even Atheists and Agnostics..." At which point, right after he listed Atheists and Agnostics, I heard myself say to my radio, "sure as Helll." I then realized how idiotically ironic I would have sounded had anyone been listening, I chuckled, shook my head, and immediately put on some Greatful Dead....but he did make me laugh, at least at myself.
