I'm still stunned, and getting angry, too angry, and more than a little bit scared of the consequences of Katrina's aftermath.  Aren't you?

I'm admittedly torn in two, ready to lash out and fix blame, but truly doubtful that this would be either appropriate or productive.

Frankly, what I've read in the blogosphere and heard on talk radio, and TV, right and left, has been either fantastic or conpletely idiotic -- with absolutely no middle ground.

When you're angry, it's natural to try and fix blame.  When chaos errupts, it's natural to try and seek advantage and political points.  If you can charge five bucks a gallon for the same gas that was sitting under your station yesterday at $3.09 that only cost you $2.50 on Friday -- and you can get away with it -- it's only natural as long as people are willing to pay. It's only natural to loot an empty store for food and water if you're stuck in the muck, and guns if you're scared -- and even DVD players if you can get away with it..

But being natural doesn't make it right.  But I'm not ready to say who was wrong for what.  I'm not ready to find blame -- yet.

If the stories and pictures from the Gulf Coast aren't sickening enough, the downright disgusting behavior of those either playing the blame game is only trumped by those shirking their responsibilities for the preventable parts of this disaster.

And when you're blameworthy, it's only natural to try and cover your ass.  There's quite a bit of that going on as well.  After all, with a calamity of such biblical proportions as we are facing, there's going to be an enormous amount of blame to go around.

UPDATE:  Clearly some of our Bush-Despising Friends disagree, urging us on the path of righteous indignation.  As far as I'm concerned, if you're not helping, you're in the way.

Just as there will be plenty of recriminations, there will be massive amounts of heroic stories.  We're not hearing about the heroes right now -- they're busy.
